I’ve felt this way…

I watched this video this morning…in fact, I watched it a couple of times.  First of all, I have some Sigur Ros music but also a "british chap" who leads and facilitates a mission-driven community posted this on his blog.  Johnny Baker does some great stuff with worship…so I subscribe to his blog for ideas and challenges and considerations.

This video made me think…it made me remember why it is important to close our eyes and sense the presence of the Spirit of God in our midst in this moment.  I remembered this quote from The Sacrament of the Present Moment,

"…the present moment is like a desert in which simple souls see and rejoice only in God, being solely concerned to do what He asks of them…God uses these souls to undertake and carry out His secret purpose, whether it occupies them passively within themselves or actively outside themselves." Jean-Pierre De Caussade

On Mondays I make "to do" lists…I'm busy getting stressed out in my heart and soul before the week even launches.  I RARELY stop and close my eyes and simply do what De Caussade encourages us to do…not looking for for the "to do" list to give me personal significance and a sense of purpose.  Rather, listening to God for purpose no matter what He chooses to reveal – whether that be simply to sit and be still or be "active"…in God's eyes and heart, all matters.  As Richard Rohr says, "everything belongs."  As Rob Bell says, "everything is spiritual."  Proactivity, drivenness, busy-ness – they are not the realities that always bring purpose and meaning (despite how much I want to believe that they "exclusively" do)…God brings meaning.  Whether that be in quiet or in action; whether in "passivity or activity"…God brings meaning.

Below is a prayer (that I edited) featured on Johnny Baker's blog AND the video I mentioned.  Maybe they will speak to you as they did me:

Unplug your ears
Unbind, open your eyes
That you may hear
That you may see
Wake up!
God is here
God is doing something new.
God is inviting you into a journey to discover a new world,
a new upside down kingdom.
God of justice, peace and righteousness come into our midst
Breathe your breath,
your Spirit of prophecy,
your energy,
your enlivening,
your imagination on us.
Wake us up
Open our eyes
Unplug our ears
That we might hear
That we might see
That we might grieve
That we might dream
That we might follow the ways of your extraordinary kingdom
Amen
