"Only after you tell me and show me how much you love me will I really believe that Jesus loves me".
"Why are we impatient in ministry? Why must we design measurables and systems and set up expectations and objectives that have to do with the specificities of our Kingdom efforts? What is it really like to live faithfully and trust the movement of the Holy Spirit? What is it really like to trust a God who doesn't work on our timelines or according to our expectations…who seems to be much more patient than we are with the fruits?"
"…the LORD waits to be gracious to you" Isaiah 30:18
"The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but
is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all
should reach repentance" 2 Peter 3:9
When you (or me) are agenda anxious, numbers driven, completely goal oriented, consumed with ministry deliverables, it has to suck to read those verses.
Dr. Paul Ford said something fresh – "we have been trained for structure – we have not been trained to watch and wait".
That's it for now…maybe over the next century, I'll have another fresh (it won't be original) idea! Oops, I forgot, sometimes you can use the word, "fresh" in a manner that denotes rudeness, cheekiness, and/or impudence. Don't get fresh with me! I can hear it now!
